Contribution to the EDUVINET "European Identity" subject

The topics of the lesson proposed by the teachers of the "Liceo Scientifico A.Meucci" Ronciglione will be the

Farnese family and the contribution it has given with its own history to the creation of European culture.

This choice has been made considering two factors:

• one of a general character about the political religious and artistic role which its exponents have covered;
• the other, being more contingent takes into account the geographical position of our school which is at the centre

of what was one of the strategic states of this family, the need to join the formative system to that of the working one in a more correct way, placing the foundation for deloping activity in the field of research and "Beni Culturali"

(concerned with the conservation and protection of cultural and artistic patrimony).

THE PROJECT IS DIVIDED INTO 7 LESSONS WHICH WILL LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS:

1- THE FAMILY : Origins

Family tree with lists of the more eminent characters;
The location over Italian and European territory.

2- TERRITORIAL ROOTS:

1. IN ITALY : Feudal Dominions of North Lazio;
   The duchy of Parma and Piacenza;
   The order of the "Three Fountains"
2. IN EUROPE : Politics of matrimonial alliances.

3- POWER AND CONSTITUTIONS.

4- CAPRAROLA : AN EXAMPLE OF TERRITORIAL RULING:

1. The medieval village;
2. The Farnese Palace;
3. Transformation of the village with reference to the Palace.

5- THE FARNESE PALACE:

1. the customers's reasons;
2. The ideal town;
3. The architectural structure and the architects;
4. The pictorial decoration and craftsmen;
5. The garden.

6- THE INFLUENCE OF MODEL OF PALACE ON LOCAL CLIENTS:

1. Castro;
2. Il Soratte;
3. Roma;
4. Parma and Piacenza.

7- FARNESE AND CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANT REFORMS.
